This version features a 40.4 mm diameter 18K red gold case, an Obsidian dial, gold hands and gold appliques. Elegant and refined, the watch features a completely reworked case, a thinner casing ring and sapphire crystals on the front and back. The highlight of this model is its dial, which is meticulously crafted using a complex process involving 60 steps. The surprising optical depth is achieved by applying 15 layers of fine transparent lacquer that is polished to a high-gloss finish. The counter is milled into the brass and lacquer layers. A special printing process enhances the 3D effect. Finally, the appliques are individually hand-mounted on the dial. The Portugieser Automatic 40 is powered by the IWC-manufactured calibre 82200. Equipped with zirconium oxide ceramic components, the Pellaton automatic winding system stores a power reserve of 60 hours in the mainspring. The watch is fitted with a black alligator strap by Santoni, secured with an 18-carat red gold pin buckle.
