Having participated in all six moon landings in human history, the legendary OMEGA Speedmaster is a true space icon that embodies the pioneering spirit of the Maison. In this 44.25 mm model, the Speedmaster's history on board the Apollo 8 mission is celebrated by the blackened movement, whose baseplate and bridges are laser-engraved to represent the lunar surface. The visible side is visible through the skeletonized black-anodized aluminum dial, while the hidden side is revealed through the caseback. Presented on a perforated black rubber strap revealing a yellow rubber insert, this watch is crafted entirely from black ceramic, with yellow varnish accents on the chronograph seconds hands and a laser-engraved tachymeter scale on the white enamel-coated window. The small seconds subdial (patent pending) also features a grade 5 titanium hand in the shape of a Saturn V rocket. This 3D shape is achieved by laser turning, while the colors result from applying a white lacquer, ablation, and laser blackening. A specially decorated version of the OMEGA Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 3869 adorns the watch, and the caseback is engraved with the words “APOLLO 8, DEC 1968,” “DARK SIDE OF THE MOON,” “WE’LL SEE YOU ON THE OTHER SIDE,” and “CO-AXIAL MASTER CHRONOMETER.”
