In the 1950s, the original Co-Pilot Ref. 765 AVI shared the spotlight with another Breitling icon, the Navitimer. With its bold design, engraved rotating bezel, and highly legible dial, the 765 AVI, a robust and reliable pilot’s watch, immediately became the Navitimer’s ideal ally. Today, the AVI Ref. 765 1953 Re-Edition is faithful in every detail to one of the earliest versions of the Co-Pilot Ref. 765 AVI. The all-black dial, protected by a domed hesalite crystal, features the same Arabic numerals as those of the original 1953 Co-Pilot with tone-on-tone small seconds, 15-minute, and 12-hour counters. The hand-applied Super-LumiNova® was carefully chosen to echo the original luminescent coating and gives the AVI Ref. 765 1953 Re-Edition an added vintage touch. The 41 mm stainless steel case is also identical, with the bezel secured by three screws placed in exactly the same positions as the watch from 1953. Only two concessions have been made to differentiate this new timepiece from its iconic ancestor: the water resistance has been improved to 3 bar (30 meters) and keen observers will notice that “GENEVE” no longer appears on the dial. The AVI Ref. 765 1953 Re-Edition is powered by the in-house developed Breitling Manufacture Caliber B09. This COSC-certified hand-wound caliber is inspired by the famous Breitling Manufacture Caliber 01 and was developed specifically for historical reissues.
