Omega Speedmaster '57 Co-Axial Master Chronometer Chronograph Watch
Launched in 1957, Omega's Speedmaster has become a watchmaking legend, thanks in particular to its emblematic role in the lunar missions. Today, the Speedmaster '57 collection pays tribute to this historic model while incorporating major technical advances. We invite you to take a closer look at this exceptional model, available in our boutiques on the Côte d'Azur.
A legendary heritage since 1957
The Omega Speedmaster '57 holds a special place in watchmaking history. Launched in 1957 under the reference CK2915, it was initially designed for engineers, pilots and speed enthusiasts, hence its emblematic tachometric bezel - a first at the time. This innovative design made it possible to calculate speed as a function of elapsed time, a feature that quickly became indispensable in the world of sports timekeeping.
But it was its evolution over the following decades that propelled it to iconic status. In 1965, the Speedmaster was officially approved by NASA for all manned space missions, eventually becoming the first watch worn on the Moon in 1969 with the Apollo 11 mission.
The current '57 version pays faithful homage to this pioneering model, elegantly reinterpreting its original aesthetic codes - symmetrical case, straight lugs, Broad Arrow hands - while incorporating the cutting-edge technologies for which Omega is renowned today.
A design inspired by 1957
The Speedmaster '57 takes up the classic lines of the first Speedmaster, including the straight lugs characteristic of the CK2915 model. Its 40.5 mm-diameter stainless steel case features a satin-finish finish and a blackened tachometric bezel. The green dial, adorned with rhodium-plated hour-markers and white Super-LumiNova-coated “Broad Arrow” hands, ensures optimum legibility. At 6 o'clock, a date window is harmoniously integrated, while at 9 o'clock, a small seconds counter completes the display. The back of the case is engraved with the inscription “Speedmaster '57”, and the flat sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on the inside guarantees uncompromising clarity.
An exceptional movement: the caliber 9906
The Speedmaster '57 is powered by the Omega Co-Axial Master Chronometer caliber 9906, a hand-wound mechanical movement renowned for its precision and robustness. Certified Master Chronometer by the Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology (METAS), it meets the most demanding standards in terms of performance, resistance to magnetic fields and reliability.
This caliber has a 60-hour power reserve and operates at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour. It is equipped with a silicon balance-spring, totally insensitive to magnetic disturbances, and incorporates the Co-Axial escapement, an innovation patented by renowned watchmaker George Daniels. This system reduces internal friction, prolonging the movement's life and improving its precision over the long term.
